If you need a gasfitter to fit a bayonet valve to your caravan or camper so that you can cook outside on your BBQ, portable stove or slide-out kitchen then you've come to the right place. We regularly fit a variety of different bayonet valves to caravans, motorhomes, van and bus conversions, camper trailers plus all the rest. It can be a fairly quick and simple job or it can be a slightly more work if you want a valve fitted 4m away from the nearest gas pipe.
We normally fit standard bayonet valves with a steel bracket for caravans as per the first two images. If we have access and space we can fit a nice flip cover style bayonet. These are popular with van and bus renovators where the internal side panels have been removed. If you want to save $44 on the cost of the flip up cover, we can just fit the valve flush against the side of the RV.
Wherever possible we try and fit the bayonet valve out with the perimeter of the awning as per the Gas Inspectorate recommendations. You have to ensure that if you do fit an awning room to your awning then you don't use your BBQ in that space. Always follow the manufacturer instructions. And yes, your baby Weber Q instructions (and similar small BBQ's without flame out devices) state that their appliance is not designed for connections to a fixed gas installation. The gas standards require that all cooking appliances connected to a fixed gas installation have a flame failure device to automatically shut the gas off if the wind blows the gas out.
Many van and camper manufacturers only pay their gasfitters to fit one bayonet valve when the van is being constructed. Having two bayonet valves allows for a suitable BBQ to be plugged in for flame grilled goodness at the same time as the slide out stove is plugged in. We regularly add a second bayonet valve to hybrid campers with the slide out kitchen at the rear. See pic below
Portable appliances that are designed to connect direct to the cylinder are not part of a gas system. When we issue a gas certificate for the safe installation of a bayonet valve. Our responsibility stops at the bayonet valve. We can but recommend customers abide by the rules. We sell bayonet hoses in 1.2m, 1.5m, 2m and the maximum length of 3m.
